Asian Pornstars at 2010 AVN Awards

The AVN Awards are kinda like the Oscars of porn except it seeems that just about every porn video released gets nominated for some award or other and the female nominees wear much more revealing outfits (often without bras and panties). There were a total of 116 awards given out for everything from "Best Sex Comedy" (Flight Attendants) to Best Anal Sex Scene (Anal Cavity Search 6 with sexy little buttsluts Sasha Grey and Jenna Haze) and "Transsexual Performer of the Year" (Kimber James).

Porn has certainly become much more mainstream than in the past as evidenced by the number of celbrities that attended the AVN Award show and related events. Comedian Carrot Top, rock musicians Gene Simmons from KISS and Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers), who both presented awards, actor Sean Penn (pre-party at Mandalay Bay's rumjungle club). Well, rockstars have been banging pornstars for ages, so maybe this just proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

2009 was a somewhat weak year for Asian porn and there don't seem to have been too many Asian pornstars in attendance at the AVNs as a result. However, 2009's hottest new Asian pornstar, Asa Akira, was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Pure.

Although Asa didn't win (Kimberly Kane won for "The Sex Files: A Dark XXX Parody"), I'm sure she was honored just to be nominated (isn't that what actors always say when they don't win an award?). OK, guess what, Asa did say exactly that:

“I’m really flattered to be nominated for best actress and best starlet in the same year, because that doesn’t really happen. All the other nominees for best actress are girls that have been in it for years and years. So, I’m pretty excited. I’m just excited to be nominated. Even if I don’t win, I think it’s cool they noticed I did a girl job. Out of thousands and thousands of girls and movies, they picked mine. I think that’s cool.”

While Asa didn't win for her role in "Pure," recently deceased David Aaron Clark won Best Director, Feature for "Pure."

"Asian Fucking Nation 3" (with Asa Akira, Jessica Bangkok, Tia Ling, London Keys, Lana Violet, Kianna Dior and Jandi Lin doing a DP) won the award for Best Ethnic Release, Asian.

Kaylani Lei (aka Ashley Spalding) is an Asian porn star and exotic dancer. Kaylani was reportedly born in Singapore although she looks like her ethnicity is probably Filipina. She moved to the U.S. with her family as a child and eventually ended up in Sin City, Las Vegas. Lured by the sin (not to mention money), Kaylani started working in a Vegas strip club at age 18.

While Kaylani is certainly a cute little sexy thing, she's been criticized for somewhat tame "vanilla sex" performances. However, that may change as Kaylani's expanding her horizons a bit in her porn comeback. Kaylani's first anal scene in Never Say Never was released in August 2008.
